Ficar doente em turnê: Mudanças climáticas e voos

Em entrevista ao site Snap Star, Amy destaca alguns pontos importantes em relação ao novo álbum, suas diferenças em comparação aos anteriores e as próprias mudanças na banda. Também destaca as melhores e piores coisas que já aconteceram na atual turnê da banda.

Com o sucesso imediato de seu primeiro hit, Bring Me To Life, a banda americana Evanescence era um nome familiar nos anos 2000.

No entanto, a grupo esteve sumido por um tempo. O que eles têm feito? Você pode imaginar? Bem, eles estão de volta em turnê para promover seu terceiro álbum, tocando na cerimônia do Nobel da Paz e trabalhando em seus novos hits. Mantendo-se fiel ao seu som, eles têm trabalhado com algumas pessoas diferentes desta vez. Nós conversamos com eles para falar mais sobre seu horário atrapalhado, bem como o que eles vêm trabalhando para este novo álbum.

Vocês estão em turnê para promover seu terceiro álbum no momento, como é que a turnê está indo?

Tem sido muito boa! Temos ido a novos lugares realmente legais, Singapura, Hong Kong e Manila - todos no sudeste asiático. Voltando aos lugares relembramos como também é legal, porque nós os conhecemos tão bem... Nós gostamos tanto.

Qual a melhor parte até agora?

A cerimônia do Prêmio Nobel da Paz foi uma das melhores coisas que já fiz, e eu sei que eu vou pensar nisso por muitos anos. Não foi como nossos shows de sempre - só tocamos duas músicas, mas foi um momento tão único, grupos diversos de artistas tocando. Foi uma loucura tocar para pessoas trajando smoking e coisas parecidas - mas todo mundo foi tão sincero e realmente apaixonado, foi simplesmente fantástico.

E as piores partes?

Ficar doente em turnê é o pior. Muitas mudanças climáticas e os voos... É duro para seu corpo viajar o tempo todo.

O que os fãs podem esperar do novo álbum em comparação aos seus grandes hits (e) vencedores do Grammy?

Nós crescemos muito ao longo do tempo - nossa música tornou-se mais diversificada e mostra diferentes lados de mim. Lados que vão além de algumas das minhas primeiras faixas como Bring Me To Life, mas ao mesmo tempo é a mesma banda, a mesma paixão. Se você ouvir o novo álbum em comparação com o último, é definitivamente a mesma banda, mas nós mudamos. Quando você se sente diferente, você toca diferente.

Pode dizer sobre a produção e desenvolvimento? Quais foram os temas e inspirações por trás do novo álbum?

Comecei a escrever à toa. Não sabia se seria um álbum do Evanescence ou algo diferente. Eu gosto de escrever sem ter um plano em mente - mas depois de algum tempo, eu sabia que eram canções do Evanescence pois vieram com a mesma emoção no final. Depois de alguns anos testando e experimentando, todos acabamos colaborando em algumas faixas realmente interessantes e surpreendentes. Apenas nos concentramos em tocar e fazer músicas, com todos juntos somando ideias e quando eu ouvi a gravação, eu sabia que era isso.

Em 2003, você descreveu a banda como um "dark rock épico e dramático". Vocês ainda seguem nessa direção?

Tudo isso ainda se aplica, mas você vai perceber uma maior variedade nas canções, nem todas serão épicas. Você precisa de uma dinâmica e variação que faça contraste, para que você sinta a diferença no “drama” do álbum. Se eu fosse recapitular hoje, seria mais real; naquela época descrevia minha música como algo um pouco mais fantasiosa.

É evidente que o grupo mudou, a dinâmica mudou. Como conseguiu manter o tão querido som do Evanescence?

É meu som e isso mudou, mas continua fiel. Eu acho que naturalmente tenho um monte de “sons” iguais que saem de mim que eu sempre amei, e eu faço os mesmos sons. No final das contas, não foi intencional a mudança dos membros, mas eu adoro a ideia de ter trabalhado com tantos caras diferentes - isso abriu meus olhos de diversas maneiras e me permitiu experimentar um novo jeito de fazer música.

Isso significa que as pessoas, definitivamente, deveriam dar uma checada no novo, mas ainda fiel, tão amado som do Evanescence!

With the immediate success of their first hit, Bring Me to Life, US band Evanescence was a household name in the 2000s

The group has been laying low for a while, however. What have they been up to, you may wonder? Well, they've been touring Asia to promote their third album, playing at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, and developing their newest hits. Staying true to their 'Evanescence' sound, they have worked with a few different people this time around. We caught up with them to chat more about their whirlwind schedule, as well as what they've been working on for this brand new album.

You're touring at the moment to promote your third album at the moment, how is the touring going?

It’s been really good! We’ve been to really cool new places, Singapore, HK and Manila – all through South East Asia. Going back to places we remember is really cool as well, because we know them so well. We’ve enjoyed it so much.


Any best bits so far? 

The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony was one of the best things I’ve ever done, and I know I’m going to be thinking about this for years to come. It wasn’t like our normal shows – we just played 2 songs, but it was such unique, diverse group of artists playing. It was crazy playing to tuxedos and stuff - but everyone was so sincere and really passionate, it was just amazing.

How about low lights?

Getting sick on tour is the worst – lots of climate change and flying – it’s just hard on your body traveling all the time.

What can fans expect from the new album, compared to your big hits and Grammy winning tracks?

We’ve grown a lot over time – our music has become more diverse, and it shows the different sides of me. More sides than some of my first tracks like Bring me to Life, but at the same time it’s the same band, the same passion. If you hear the new album compared to the last it’s definitely the same band, but we’ve changed as well. When you feel different, you play different

Can you tell me about its production and development – what were the background themes and inspiration?

I started writing aimlessly – I didn’t know if it would be Evanescence album or something different. I like to write without a plan – but then after a while I knew it would be Evanescence - it just came back to the same feeling in the end. After a few years of experimenting we all ended up collaborating on some really cool and amazing tracks. We just concentrated on jamming and making songs, with everyone putting their ideas in – and when I listen to the record I can hear that.

In 2003 you described the group as "epic, dramatic, dark rock" - would you say you're still moving in this direction?

All those words still apply, but you’re going to get some variety with all the songs, not all will be epic – you need some dynamic contrast and change, so you can feel the change in the ‘dramatincness’ of the record.

If I was going to sum it up today, it would be more reality, back then I was describing something a little more fantastic in my music.

Obviously the group has changed a bit - has the dynamic changed, and how do you keep to the much loved 'Evanescence' sound?

It is my sound, and it has changed - but it stays true. I think naturally I have a lot of the same sounds coming out of me that I’ve always loved, and I make the same sounds. In the end it’s not intentional to change members, but I love that I’ve gotten to work with a lot of different guys – it’s opened my eyes in different ways and allowed me to experience a whole new way of making music.

Which means people should definitely check out the new album for a fresh but true take on the much loved Evanescence sound!
